  Full Time & Part Time Chinese Courses  
 

These courses (Elementary, Intermediate & Advanced) are intensive courses to help students to communicate effectively in Chinese. The courses integrate all aspects of the language: reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, phonetics, and vocabulary. Participants at lower proficiency levels will be carefully guided to acquire the language skills needed for effective communication in a short period of time, and advanced students will be given the opportunity to gain expression proficiency at a more abstract level. Topics studied include everyday situations and Chinese culture, society, and history. The aim of the class work is to develop students' oral expression, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing, and grammar. Up-to-date materials are used to guide students in the mastering of the language. The focus is also to introduce and integrate Chinese culture, history, and literature into the course content so that students have a better understanding of the language and its cultural influence. General aims of the classes are as follows:

Strengthen Oral Expression: Enhance participants' oral expression and pronunciation skills. At the lower proficiency levels simple topics related to daily life are taught, and more specialized and complex topics are taught at the higher proficiency (advanced) level.

Improve Listening Comprehension Ability: The aim is to develop participants' listening comprehension skills and the ability to understand the language when spoken during everyday situation. This is to ensure that students be able to interact effectively with friends and colleagues in their everyday lives.

Sharpen Reading Comprehension Ability: The key purpose is to develop participants' reading skills in both comprehension and speed so that they will be able to comprehend materials such as magazines and newspapers.

Enhance Writing Skills Ability: The focus is on the fundamentals of the radical system, bushou, composition of characters and stroke orders. The purpose is establish a strong foundation in Chinese Character development for the students at an early stage.

Sharpening Grammar & Vocabulary Usage: The fundamentals of Chinese grammar, sentence structures, expressions, and phonetics are taught to students to ensure effective mastery of the language.

 
     
  Basic Chinese Communication  
 
This is a practical course in training students to communicate effectively in different situation such as business events, technical discussions, and social functions. Unlike the Full-Time or Part-Time Chinese Courses, the Basic Chinese Communication course focuses primarily in improving the oral communication ability of the students. These course focuses on developing oral communication skills, using a situational approach within social and cultural contexts. Audio-visual material is used to increase competency in verbal and non-verbal communication. Upon completion, students not only acquire basic Chinese language communicative competence but also have a better understanding of the Chinese culture.

The Chinese Language teachers are either ex-MOE teachers or native Chinese speakers who have years of experience in teaching Mandarin Chinese to students. They are qualified teachers of Chinese as a second language. These teachers will also offer invaluable personal support and assistance in monitoring individual progress throughout the study duration.
