What is BizWorld programme? Can children (ages 10-14) take up this programme at Evander instead of with their schools?
BizWorld programme is specially designed in United States by Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper , to teach Business to students ages 10 to 14. It simulates the real bu siness environments in a form of a fun filled game. Groups of students will initiate and run their own businesses of designing, manufacturing, selling, and financing their own products.
The programme has been successfully launched to many schools since its introduction in Singapore in 2002. Since then, students who have participated, have given laudable feedback on the programme.
From 1 January 2006 , individuals (children of ages 10-14) can also participate in this programme, which will be run at Evander's premises. BizWorld programme will be held frequently during the School Holidays (March, June, September, December). Please check our website for registration details.
My school would like to implement the BizWorld Programme in conjunction with IPW (Intergrated Project Work). How do we do that?
Allocate 8 hours of IPW to the BizWorld Programme, whereby a BizWorld trainer will take students through IPW.
My school would like to intergrate the BizWorld Programme with a school event, such as a school bazaar. How do we go about it?
There are typically 2 scenarios:
- Scenario 1 - BizWorld Programme as a stand-alone
The school can conduct the BizWorld Programme as a stand-alone. Students learn selling concepts, pricing, etc. After the end of the BizWorld Programme, they can set up the stalls and sell the products with concepts that they have learnt.
- Scenario 2 - BizWorld Market Day in conjunction with school bazaar (highly recommended!)
The school can conduct the BizWorld Programme, using the products produced during the BizWorld Programme to sell during the bazaar. This scenario is more effective, as it provides the crucial competitive element for students. Students go through the first 2 sections “Design & Manufacturing Day” before embarking on “Marketing Day”, which is also Bazaar day. After the bazaar, students will finish off with “Finance Day”.
Please note that for Scenario 2, because teams will be competing against each other, their products must be similar (e.g. all selling friendship bands).
Scenario 2 usually involves at least 1 – 2 months of advanced planning. In addition to training, these are optional fees schools might have to pay:
- Customization fee: $100 (BizWorld has to customize the BizWorld Programme to fit each school’s agenda)
- Sourcing fee: $100 (for schools that require BizWorld to source for materials other than threads)
- Material fee: Schools will have to pay for new materials (e.g. beads, cellophane paper, etc)
What is Bizbucks?
Bizbucks is the currency used in the BizWorld Programme. Shoppers will be given Bizbucks as shopping money. “BizWorld shopping” can take place alongside other stalls selling things for actual cash.
Important Notes:
My school would like to implement the BizWorld Programme, but we want to replace threads with other materials. Can we do it?
Yes. However additional fees will apply. These fees will include:
- Customization fee: BizWorld has to customize the BizWorld Programme to fit each school’s agenda
- Sourcing fee: for schools that require BizWorld to source for materials
- Material fee: Schools will have to pay for new materials (e.g. beads, etc)
